The Drawmer 1972 Dual Mic, Line & Instrument Pre-Amplifier is designed to make capturing perfect recordings effortless. It offers the ability to record pristine audio from a variety of sources, bringing out the best in every microphone, from budget options to high-end dynamics and ribbon mics. Uniquely, it includes features that assist in difficult recording situations, making it unlike any other preamplifier on the market.
The 1972 uses the latest THAT Corporation technology in its two independent mic preamps, providing ultra clean, transparent, and precise recordings that can be further processed using your favorite techniques, such as compression, EQ, saturation, valve, transformer, or tape. Each channel features 66dB of stepped gain, with an additional ±12dB trim at the output, and incorporates switchable mic impedance for accurate mic matching, optimizing the sound of any microphone used.
The 1972 includes several advanced features that help when recording challenging sources, ensuring the best quality recording with ease. Fully variable LoCut and HiCut controls allow for tuning into recordings and removing unnecessary low and high frequencies, such as rumble and hiss. The Shape feature enhances bass or treble using a subtle tilt EQ, adding more versatility to your recordings.
The unique Lift feature, developed by Ivor Drawmer and currently exclusive to the 1972, is a low-level dynamic gain module that boosts quiet signals without affecting louder passages, avoiding distortion and clipping. It is especially effective for very dynamic signals, such as piano, vocals, and ambiance.
The 1972 offers three mic impedance settings per input: 200, 600, and 2400 Ohms. This makes it easy to explore various tonal characteristics, as mismatching impedance can create interesting tonal differences. The tonal changes will vary depending on the microphone and the material you’re working with, allowing for creative exploration.
The Drawmer 1972 was recognized by the audio industry and nominated for a TEC Award at the 2024 NAMM Show, highlighting its outstanding contribution to the world of audio recording.
