The Drawmer DL441 Quad Auto Compressor/Limiter brings together four channels of the innovative DL241 ‘Auto Compressor’ in a compact 1U rack space. This sophisticated device provides precise control over dynamic range and absolute peak levels, making it ideal for sound reinforcement and outside broadcast applications where rack space is at a premium. The DL441 features automated circuitry that maintains essential dynamic control without compromising on flexibility, ensuring excellent performance in any audio environment.

Compressor

The compressor section of the DL441 can be switched to provide either HARD or SOFT knee compression. In SOFT mode, the ratio gradually increases over a 10dB input level range until reaching the set ratio, creating natural and musical compression. In HARD mode, the compressor applies the set ratio immediately once the signal exceeds the threshold, providing precise gain control. HARD knee compression is particularly effective for broadcast applications and can also be creatively applied to instruments like drums, guitars, and vocals for a distinct compressed sound.

Auto Attack and Release

The DL441 includes an Auto Attack/Release feature, which removes the need for manual adjustments by automatically responding to the dynamics of the incoming signal. This ensures that crisp transients are preserved while preventing excessive peaks. The smooth yet responsive recovery minimizes side effects like ‘pumping’ and ‘breathing,’ making the DL441 ideal for processing unpredictable dynamics in complete mixes, vocals, or bass guitar performances.

Peak Level Limiter

The DL441 features ‘Zero Response Time’ and ‘Zero Overshoot’ circuitry, providing an absolute limit to the peak level of the output signal, adjustable from 0dB to +16dB above system level. This transparent limiting ensures complete protection from even the fastest signal overloads, making it well-suited for protecting speaker systems in sound reinforcement applications. The sophisticated limiter circuitry prevents unpleasant distortion, especially when used for digital mastering and critical audio applications.
