To achieve its lower cost, the LS1a uses a non-magnesium woofer, lighter foot plate, and lacquered cabinet, while omitting some labor-intensive modifications and individual acoustic calibration found in the flagship LS1. Even so, the LS1a maintains the essential qualities that define the LS1 series: precision, neutrality, and a design that minimizes wall reflection interference. Connections include analog and three digital AES/EBU inputs, with an optional USB interface for direct computer playback. Convenient system control is available via the LS1r remote or Grimm’s MU1 music player.

As a full-range two-way system, the LS1a performs at a true reference level. When paired with an LS1s or SB1 subwoofer, it extends into a low-distortion three-way configuration capable of handling all music styles and room sizes.
