Hazelrigg Industries VDP Dual-Channel Vacuum Tube Microphone Preamp and DI

The VDP brings the soul of vintage vacuum tubes to the modern studio without legacy noise floor compromises. Handcrafted in the USA by Hazelrigg Industries and building on the legendary D.W. Fearn design philosophy, this two-channel preamp and DI features an all-tube signal path with transformer-coupled input and output stages for natural harmonic depth, musical saturation, and polished sheen. Drawing DNA from the acclaimed D.W. Fearn VT series tube preamp and power design, the VDP offers its own unique flavor with +63dB of gain (6dB more than the VT-2), higher headroom, more saturation, and nuanced articulate detail unique to the Hazelrigg lineup. Low-noise selected tubes (two 6072A and two 12AT7) drive a fully regulated solid-state B+, filament, and +48V power supply for clean lift on ribbon mics, articulation for condensers, and deep headroom for high-SPL sources. Front-loaded mic/DI inputs enable instant instrument tracking while rear XLR inputs remain ready for permanent studio patching. The signature aircraft-inspired locking +48V phantom power switch prevents accidental engagement, while integrated high-pass filter, -20dB pad, and polarity reversal provide total gain-stage management.

Key Features:

  • All-Tube Signal Path with Transformer I/O: Vacuum tube circuitry with transformer-coupled inputs and outputs delivers rich musical saturation, isolated signal integrity, and natural harmonic depth from input to output.
  • D.W. Fearn Heritage, Refined: Built on the legendary VT series preamp and power design with unique Hazelrigg voicing, offering +63dB gain (6dB more than VT-2), higher headroom, increased saturation, and distinctive articulate shine.
  • Low-Noise Selected Tube Complement: Two 6072A and two 12AT7 tubes carefully selected for low noise deliver clean performance with 74dB minimum signal-to-noise ratio and <0.5% THD (15Hz – 15kHz).
  • Front-Loaded Flexibility: Quick-access mic/DI inputs on faceplate allow instant instrument tracking while rear XLR inputs remain available for permanent studio microphone patching.
  • Locking Phantom Power Switch: Signature D.W. Fearn aircraft-inspired locking mechanism on +48V phantom power prevents accidental engagement during critical sessions.
  • Comprehensive Signal Management: Integrated high-pass filter removes unwanted low frequencies, -20dB pad handles hot sources, and polarity reversal switch ensures perfect phase alignment in multi-mic setups.
  • Fully Regulated Power Supply: Solid-state regulated B+, filament, and +48V phantom power ensure modern reliability with vintage tube character and lower noise floor than legacy designs.
