Little Labs VOG – Analog Bass Resonance Tool (500-Series)
The Little Labs VOG is an analog bass resonance tool and the brand’s first entry in the popular API 500-Series module format. Originally designed to capture the chest resonance of vocalists and voice-over artists, the VOG enables a proximity effect without requiring close mic placement. Its true power, however, is revealed when used on kick drums and bass instruments, where it delivers a huge, resonant low-end presence.
By allowing users to sweep a sharp peak resonance from 20 to 300 Hz, the VOG focuses on the essential low-end frequencies while rolling off anything below at a steep -24dB per octave. This precise control helps eliminate unnecessary low-end mush and woofer excursion, ensuring a tight and punchy sound in any mix.
Whether focusing on subharmonics, fundamentals, or upper harmonics, the VOG provides a unique tonal control. On a kick drum, for instance, it emulates the tightening or loosening of a drumhead, allowing for optimal placement of bass frequencies so that they don’t interfere with other instruments in the mix.
