Phoenix Audio Theata 8-channel Instrument Preamp and Summing Mixer
A Unique, Professional Audio Product
The Phoenix Audio Theata is truly a unique professional audio product designed for the studio, live, and broadcast markets. As the demand for electronic instruments like synths, electronic drums, and sequencers has exploded, the need for high-quality amplification has become critical. Additionally, Theata offers the best possible quality instrument preamps for guitars, basses, or even routing virtual instruments from your DAW. Phoenix Audio is committed to maintaining the sonic integrity of your instruments while enhancing their sound with modern analog circuitry, strongly influenced by our vintage 70’s design background. Our custom-designed and wound transformers can add pleasing color and tone to enhance the instruments’ best characteristics.
Capture Every Note with Ultra-High Impedance Input Amplification
When you want to capture every syllable and every single frequency of every note played, you need ultra-high impedance input amplification. Theata’s input amplification allows you to capture every detail, offering you the ability to sculpt and modify the sound with Phoenix Audio’s Class-A discrete output amplifiers and transformers. Lower impedance resolutions can lose the natural wide frequency range of your instruments, rendering them dull, lifeless, and flat, but Theata preserves their full character.
Advanced Control with 30dB Gain and Routing Options
Theata offers eight channels, and each channel acts as an individual channel strip, providing 30dB of gain to drive synths for added color and tone or simply amplify levels for guitars. Each channel also features a 15dB pad for gain reduction, phase reverse, and ground lift. The variable high-pass filter allows you to sculpt sounds or remove unwanted rumble with a range of frequency options for flexible control. The Theata also includes 20 outputs: 16 direct D-sub outputs, two XLR mix master outputs, and two master monitor outputs.
Innovative Routing Matrix and Summing Capabilities
One of Theata’s standout features is its intuitive routing matrix. Each channel has left and right switching options to route any of the eight channels to a master bus for summing into a two-channel mix. This allows you to sum your instruments to free up inputs on your DAW interface or FOH, or mix your instruments using Theata’s built-in Class-A summing amplifier. You can even route a mono signal to a stereo bus for additional sonic creativity.
Master Bus Features and Stereo Width Effect
The master bus offers a stereo output, left and right monitor outputs, and a stereo width effect control. This control enables you to widen the mix or create a narrow mono mix, providing exciting sonic opportunities. The master bus also includes dedicated insert send and return connectors for external gear such as compressors or EQs. If you need more than eight channels, Theata’s linking function allows you to combine two units into a 16-channel setup.
