The 535 Diode Bridge Compressor captures the soul and heavy, harmonically rich tonality of Rupert Neve’s legendary vintage compressor designs. Originally developed for the dynamics circuit of the acclaimed Shelford Channel, this 500 Series module provides the “weighty” compression style that has defined countless hit records. Rupert Neve Designs modernized the circuit to meet 21st-century standards, delivering significantly lower noise, improved accuracy, and expanded control while maintaining the unmistakable punch and thickness of a classic diode bridge.
Legendary Diode Bridge Tone: Unlike standard VCA compressors, the 535 uses a diode bridge to add a specific flavor of harmonic content that pushes vocals, bass, and drums to the forefront of a mix.
Advanced Timing Controls: The unified Timing control offers six selectable positions that define attack and release. The “Fast” switch effectively doubles these options by speeding up all time constants by 30% for aggressive transient shaping.
Internal Parallel Compression: The built-in Blend control allows for effortless parallel processing. This enables the engineer to mix the uncompressed dry signal with the compressed wet signal to maintain natural dynamics while adding density.
Custom Transformers and Class-A Output: Rupert Neve Designs utilizes custom-wound transformers and Class-A line amplifiers to ensure that even at high compression levels, the signal remains musical and vibrant.
Sidechain High-Pass Filter: A 12dB/octave 150Hz filter can be engaged in the sidechain circuit to prevent low-frequency energy from over-triggering the compressor, which is essential for maintaining “thump” in kick drums and bass.
Fully Stepped Controls: For professional accuracy and easy recall, every control on the 535 is fully stepped, making it an ideal choice for stereo linking and critical mixing applications.
