Rupert Neve Designs MBC: Master Bus Converter and Limiter

Overview: The Ultimate Bridge Between Analog and Digital

The MBC (Master Bus Converter) represents the pinnacle of Rupert Neve Designs’ analog-to-digital conversion technology. Developed after years of refined engineering, this dual-path A-D converter and limiter is designed to capture the three-dimensional accuracy of analog signals with unprecedented clarity. Whether used for tracking, printing mixes, or mastering, the MBC provides engineers with the flexibility to choose between a transparent signal path and a harmonically rich transformer path, ensuring every recording meets the highest professional standards.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Dual-Path Analog Drive: Rupert Neve Designs provides two distinct analog topologies. The transformerless path offers maximum transparency and vibrant detail, while the custom transformer path adds the weighty, classic tonality associated with the company’s legendary console designs.

  • Variable Silk and Texture: When using the transformer path, the variable Silk Red and Blue circuits allow for precise control over harmonic content. Silk Red accentuates mid and high-frequency saturation, while Silk Blue enhances the low-end, providing a versatile palette of tonal enhancements.

  • Compound Active Release Limiter: This musical limiter serves as both a creative sculpting tool and a transparent safety catch. It features an ultra-fast response and a sweepable sidechain high-pass filter (20Hz to 250Hz) to prevent low-frequency energy from over-triggering the gain reduction.

  • Mastering-Grade Conversion: Utilizing 24-bit/192kHz converters derived from the RMP-D8, the MBC features a precision-controlled internal clock with minimal jitter and phase noise. This ensures an uncanny digital representation of the original analog performance.

  • Comprehensive Connectivity: To integrate into any digital environment, the MBC features simultaneous AES, S/PDIF, and TOSLINK outputs. It can also function as a high-end master clock for an entire studio via its Word Clock I/O.

  • High-Resolution Metering: The unit is equipped with 22-segment LED input meters—the highest resolution metering in any Rupert Neve Designs product—alongside 8-segment gain reduction meters for the limiter.

  • Calibrated Reference Levels: For seamless integration into multi-converter setups, the MBC includes four standard reference levels from -14dBFS to -20dBFS, implemented with high-precision resistors and relay-controlled attenuation.
