The Newton Channel is a powerful, modern channel strip designed to bring the unmistakable character of Rupert Neve Designs to a new generation of engineers and artists. Named after Rupert Neve’s birthplace in Newton Abbot, England, this unit represents a sonic journey from vintage soul to modern technical performance. Equally at home in large-scale commercial facilities, project studios, or live sound rigs, the Newton Channel provides an intuitive and world-class signal path for any recording or mixing application.
Class-A Mic Preamp: With a robust 72dB of gain and 6dB of fine trim control, the Newton’s input stage easily accommodates everything from delicate ribbon microphones to loud line-level sources.
Musical 3-Band EQ: The EQ section is optimized for speed and flexibility. It features low and high-frequency shelves with 31-detent potentiometers and a fully parametric mid-band switchable from 220Hz to 7kHz for precise tonal shaping.
Ultra-Smooth VCA Compressor: The latest iteration of the Rupert Neve Designs VCA compressor offers effortless dynamic control. The compressor can be placed either pre or post-EQ with the simple press of a button.
Variable Silk and Texture: The coveted Silk Red and Blue circuits allow for the saturation of custom output transformers. This feature enables the user to dial in 2nd and 3rd order harmonics, ranging from a subtle vintage tonality to aggressive modern color.
Custom Transformer Outputs: The unit features a standard MAIN output alongside a unique -6dBu secondary output. This allow engineers to fully drive the Newton’s output stage for maximum harmonic saturation without clipping the input of the next device in the chain.
Variable High-Pass Filter: A sweepable Sallen-Key high-pass filter (20Hz to 250Hz) is included to quickly eliminate unwanted low-frequency rumble or build-up at the source.
Stereo Linkable: Using a 1/4” TRS jack on the rear panel, two Newton Channel compressors can be linked together for perfectly balanced stereo operation.
