Solid State Logic SSL 18 26-In/28-Out USB Audio Interface

The Solid State Logic SSL 18 is a 26-in/28-out USB-C audio interface built around eight SSL-designed mic preamps and next-generation 32-bit/192kHz converters, delivering 120dB dynamic range across all microphone, line-level, and instrument inputs — and 125dB on the monitor and line outputs. Each of the eight input channels features Legacy 4K Analogue Enhancement, which injects the harmonic distortion character and high-frequency presence of the 4000-series console into the signal path as a switchable option, making the SSL 18 equally suited to pristine transparent tracking and colour-forward analogue production. All ten line outputs and the preamp inputs operate at +24dBu professional levels, and all outputs are DC-coupled for sending control voltage to synthesizers and modular rigs, while the onboard monitor controller, Listen Mic Compressor, ADAT expansion for up to 24 total mic preamp inputs, MIDI I/O, and SSL 360° mixer integration make it a complete recording and monitoring hub for professional studios in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, and beyond.

Key Features

  • 8 SSL-designed mic preamps — 120dB dynamic range / –130.5dBu EIN — ultra-low-noise mic preamps with 67dB gain range; 120dB dynamic range (A-weighted) typical; switchable Mic/Line configuration; Line mode bypasses the preamp stage entirely for connecting external outboard preamps without additional signal path coloration; inputs 1 and 2 include configurable analogue insert points for tracking with outboard gear inline; inputs 1 and 2 also switch to instrument/Hi-Z mode for direct guitar and instrument capture
  • Legacy 4K Analogue Enhancement — per channel — switchable circuit on every analogue input channel that injects finely tuned harmonic distortion and a musical high-frequency boost derived from the character of SSL’s 4000-series console; adds VCA-style saturation and presence to vocals, drums, and any source passing through the preamp stage; each channel also includes polarity invert, high-pass filter, and 48V phantom power
  • 10 balanced line outputs — 125dB dynamic range / +24dBu — all ten outputs are DC-coupled and capable of sending control voltage to synthesizers and modular rigs; outputs 1–2 and 3–4 are configurable between +9dBu and +24dBu to match a wide range of studio monitors and vintage equipment operating at lower levels; outputs 5–10 operate at +24dBu; outputs 1–2 and 3–4 support Main/Alt speaker switching from the front panel monitor controls
  • Monitor controller with Listen Mic Compressor — full monitor controller section with Cut, Alt, and Talk buttons on the front panel, each customisable for different workflow functions; Main/Alt speaker switching available for output pairs 1–2 and 3–4; Custom Monitor Control Assignment in SSL 360° allows all 10 analogue outputs (and S/PDIF output) to be placed under front panel monitor control for surround and immersive monitoring configurations; dedicated talkback input with the classic Listen Mic Compressor (LMC) operating in Mic or Line mode — Line mode allows stems and other audio to be processed through the LMC for parallel compression and creative effects
  • 2 independent high-performance headphone outputs — 120dB dynamic range; three selectable impedance modes per output: Standard, High Sensitivity, and High Impedance; each output has an independent level control and can be fed a custom monitor mix; both outputs can be repurposed as additional balanced line-level outputs (+24dBu in Balanced Line Output Mode); output impedance below 1Ω
  • 16 channels ADAT I/O — expandable to 24 mic preamps — two optical ADAT connections provide 16 channels of I/O at 44.1/48kHz, or 8 channels at 96kHz; additional SSL 18 units can be configured as ADAT mic preamp expanders in the SSL 360° mixer for up to 24 total analogue mic preamp inputs; dedicated word clock output for integrating external digital devices with rock-solid clocking; flexible clock source selection: internal, incoming ADAT, or S/PDIF
  • S/PDIF I/O and MIDI I/O — 2 channels of S/PDIF I/O (coaxial or optical); MIDI in and out on 3.5mm TRS jacks for connecting keyboards, controllers, and hardware synthesizers without a separate MIDI interface
  • SSL 360° low-latency mixer — comprehensive management of all inputs and outputs with scalable metering; create and save the control room monitor mix plus up to four independent performer mixes; flexible Mirror Routing routes any input or aux master directly to any output for personal monitoring systems, external metering, outboard effects, or additional SSL 18 units as preamp expanders; save templates for tracking, mixing, and other configurations as profiles
  • 32-bit/192kHz converters — +24dBu operating level — next-generation converters with +24dBu = 0dBFS for professional headroom alignment; USB 2.0 Type C connectivity with included Type C to C and Type C to A cables; plug-and-play on Mac OS 13 or later; ASIO/WDM driver for Windows 10 and 11; measured to AES17 standards
  • SSL Production Pack included — bundled software includes: 6-month Complete Access subscription; 3-month Auto-Tune Unlimited subscription; 3-month Arcade by Output subscription; perpetual licenses for SSL Vocalstrip 2 and Drumstrip; IK Multimedia AmpliTube 5 SE; Celemony Melodyne Essential; Native Instruments Hybrid Keys and Komplete Start; Ableton Live 11 Lite; AAS Session Bundle; 1.5GB Loopcloud samples
