The SSL 611EQ puts the equalizer section of the legendary SL 4000 E console channel strip into a single 500 Series slot and uniquely, it contains both versions of that EQ in one module. Early E Series consoles used the “Brown Knob” circuit, known for its musical, forgiving response and ±15 dB of cut and boost; later consoles were fitted with the “Black Knob” circuit, developed in collaboration with George Martin, offering a more assertive character with ±18 dB range and tighter low-frequency control. A single switch toggles between them, giving two distinctly voiced EQs from one module.
