Used gently, it adds a natural warmth and control to vocals, individual instruments, or a full mix; pushed harder, it produces musically useful harmonic distortion and higher-ratio compression. A notable behavior: when operated in standby mode (the unit still passes audio), a symmetrical distortion occurs that some users compare to the character of overloaded analogue tape.
