KSD A500: Powerful Phase-Aligned Monitoring

A Flagship Three-Way Monitor That Reveals Everything

The KSD A500 is the flagship of KSD’s A Class series, and it arguably delivers the most revealing three-way monitoring experience in its size category. In this video, Brian from Providence Sound and Vision explores what makes the A500 stand out among high-end studio monitors.

FIRTEC DSP Platform and Phase Accuracy

Like all KSD monitors, the A500 is powered by their proprietary FIRTEC system. This DSP platform phase-aligns every driver in the system with surgical precision, achieving ultra-low latency measured in samples rather than milliseconds. As a result, you get all the benefits of FIR processing—crystal-clear imaging, accurate time-domain response, and truthful soundstage reproduction—without the typical latency penalties commonly found in other digital systems. Because of this, the A500 excels across all genres, offering unmatched clarity for complex arrangements and dense modern productions.

Three-Way Design for Clarity and Coverage

The A500 features a three-way design that includes dual 10-inch bass drivers, a dedicated 3-inch dome midrange, and a horn-loaded 1-inch compression tweeter with a precision waveguide. Notably, the midrange driver brings lifelike clarity and nuance to vocals and upper-mid content. Meanwhile, the horn-loaded tweeter maintains detail and tonal balance across a wide listening area, so you’re not locked to a single sweet spot.

Low-End Power and Optional Sub Integration

In terms of low-end performance, the dual 10-inch woofers deliver powerful, fast, and focused bass that easily fills mid-sized control rooms. However, for larger spaces, the B500 subwoofer can be added to create a MainMaster system—capable of delivering enormous bass at club-level volumes while retaining the A500’s precise character.

Flexible I/O and Onboard DSP Controls

For connectivity, the A500 offers both analog XLR and digital AES inputs. The digital input bypasses unnecessary conversion stages, which preserves signal integrity and minimizes latency. Additionally, the A500 includes built-in shelving EQ, while the optional KSD RC remote unlocks expanded control with a 6-band EQ, level adjustments, and M/S monitoring options.

Translation, Imaging, and Real-World Confidence

With full-range phase alignment and truly three-dimensional stereo imaging, the A500 inspires confidence in every mix decision. Whether you’re mixing for streaming, vinyl, or broadcast, this level of surgical imaging makes a measurable difference.

Inside Kingsize Soundlabs with Dave Trumfio

Dave Trumfio has been a fixture in professional recording for nearly four decades—from engineering Chicago house music and Midwest death metal in the late ’80s to producing OK Go, Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and countless indie records that defined the ’90s and 2000s. In our latest video conversation at Kingsize Soundlabs in Los Angeles, Dave shares his journey from Chicago’s burgeoning electronic and indie scenes to building one of LA’s most respected producer studios. Twenty-five years after opening Kingsize LA, Dave recently completed a major studio overhaul with Providence Sound & Vision—replacing his beloved Neve 8068 with an SSL Origin console, curating a “greatest hits” outboard rack, and rethinking what a commercial studio needs to survive in the modern era.

Magic Garden Pro Evolution v.1 – The No-Compromise Monitor Package From Mastering Engineer Brian Lucey

In our latest video conversation, mastering engineer Brian Lucey joins Providence Sound & Vision’s Brian Gross to discuss the Magic Garden Pro Evolution V.1 Studio Monitor Package: a three-year collaboration that challenges conventional thinking about what professional monitoring should deliver.

After 25 years in mastering, Brian Lucey has experienced a consistent pattern: engineers send mixes that don’t quite translate, then hear everything clearly once the master comes back. Brian posits that the issue isn’t skill or sensitivity, but the monitoring.
