It’s been over a decade since the original Lynx Hilo set the bar for transparent, high-fidelity audio conversion. Now, Lynx Studio Technology is back with the Hilo 2, a next-generation converter that takes everything the original did well—and pushes it even further.
For those unfamiliar with Lynx, the company’s converters earned a place in the spotlight after being selected for Daft Punk’s Grammy-winning Random Access Memories, a benchmark album still used by audiophiles worldwide as a reference. With the Hilo 2, Lynx delivers its most transparent AD/DA conversion to date—and it’s available now for demo at Providence Sound and Vision.
A New Touchscreen, A Deeper Feature Set
The Hilo 2 sports a revamped, more responsive touchscreen with improved brightness and better off-axis viewing. This means no more awkward angles or laggy response—just fast, accurate control. The updated interface makes navigating Hilo 2’s deep feature set easier than ever, whether you’re adjusting levels or digging into routing options.
Flexible Filtering, Customizable Sound
Lynx has also introduced new filter options in the Hilo 2, giving you the choice between linear and minimum-phase filters with adjustable fast or slow slopes. These filters can be selected independently for AD and DA conversion, allowing for deep customization—whether you’re chasing a natural analog feel or surgical precision.
All the I/O You Need—and Then Some
On the back panel, Hilo 2 offers a wide range of analog and digital I/O, including balanced XLR, AES, optical S/PDIF, and up to 8 channels of ADAT. There’s even a user-installable expansion slot for USB, Thunderbolt, or Dante connectivity—making it easy to adapt the Hilo 2 to your changing studio needs.
More Than a Pretty Display
The touchscreen isn’t just for navigation. It also features a variety of metering tools, including classic VU meters and a real-time frequency analyzer, all calibrated for critical decision-making. Combined with Lynx’s incredibly clean conversion path, these tools provide confidence in every playback and print.
Designed for Versatility
The Hilo 2 supports up to 2 inputs and 6 outputs of AD/DA conversion, with digital expansion available for up to 16 channels. Its flexible routing matrix and user-defined scene storage make it ideal for mastering, multichannel mixing, location recording, overdubbing, and even audiophile listening.
For mobile engineers, Hilo 2 is compact and can be powered with a standard video battery pack, making it an excellent solution for high-quality location recording. And for permanent installs, it can be rack-mounted using the optional Hilo Rack.
