22 Boutique Microphone Shootout With Band Faux Real

We spoke with ‪@isthisfauxreal‬ about recording their new album and offered to help them pick the best microphone for their voices. We are grateful they agreed to share their acapella vocals with you so you can hear a wide variety of vocal microphones and hopefully, it helps you make an educated microphone choice too.

We offer all of these microphones and more for demos so please reach out next time you are in need of a microphone and we’ll make sure you get the one that fits you like a glove.

Jeff Ehrenberg: Hello, Jeff here with Providence Sound And Vision. In this video we’re going to demonstrate something unique that singers, musicians, producers, engineers and music fans will all appreciate.

We’re going to demonstrate the sound of some of the best microphones made today and we’re going to show how we choose the right microphone for a singer’s voice to tailor a vocal chain.

Vocal chain tailoring is a service that Providence Sound And Vision offers to our customers. If you’re planning on adding a microphone to your studio we would love to hear from you and we’ll help you in the same way that you’ll see today.

To better help you listen and compare the sound of these microphones, we’re partnering with Audio Test Kitchen. Audio Test Kitchen built the world’s only virtual showroom for microphones using real recordings and a custom web player so you can compare the sound of microphones and use your ears to decide which is the best for you and your sonic aesthetic.

Subscribe and follow us on social media to find out when we release a custom audio test kitchen player with the content of today’s session and visit our website, provsv.com to connect with us and schedule a demo of your own.

In the studio today we’re joined by art pop group Faux Real. They have a very creative approach to songwriting and live performance that has never been seen or heard before. I was talking to them after a recent show and they mentioned how they’re just starting to record a new record. The timing is perfect for us to find the right microphone that fits Elliot and Virgile’s voices.

For today’s session we’ll be recording at The Nest in East Los Angeles. Each microphone will be split through a Radial Microphone Splitter and feed the Neumann MT-48 interface and the BAE 1073MPF at the same time. The 1073 is a favorite among singers at it adds a rich, full, harmonic tone to the voice. Our choice and recommendation for the 1073 is the one that BAE has been hand making in Los Angeles for decades to the original design spec.

The mic pre and the Neumann MT-48 is musical, accurate and deep and will allow us to hear the microphones themselves without the additional tone of the 1073.

Now, enough talk, let’s listen to some music.
